Red fox - San Juan Island, Washington (2013)
A fox patrols a prairie on San Juan Island in search of a favorite prey, european rabbits. Although this fox does not have red fur, it is a red fox. Just as humans have different pigmentation in skin and hair, foxes also have a variety of fur colors, including the so-called silver fox, where the dark pigment, melanin, produces this fox's black coat.
