Olympic National Park, Washington (2021)

A sublime journey along a moss-lined trail through a forest of fir and hemlock eventually gives way to subalpine fir, open meadows and rock as you approach the upper reaches of the path. The remnants of recent glacial activity are everywhere, from towering moraines to milky blue lakes.

As night approached, thick clouds overhead appeared likely to impede light from breaking through. Just as it seemed that night had won its hold, a brilliant display of color erupted across the sky, illuminating the scene and highlighting the beautiful texture of the clouds above.
