Pink salmon - Resurrection Creek, Chugach National Forest, Alaska (2018)
Two years after being born in this very stream, these pink salmon have returned from their ocean travels to their natal freshwater home to complete their incredible life cycle. Upon entering freshwater, they undergo an stunning morphological transformation, changing colors with males also developing a pronounced hump on their back as they prepare to spawn. Here, swimming steadily in the swift current, a male, with its distinctive hump, competes for the attention of the female swimming beside him in hopes to mate.
