Wildflowers - Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, California (2019)
After consecutive years of drought, winter rains replenish the arid southern California landscape setting in motion a truly spectacular event. Having laid dormant awaiting the right conditions, wildflowers begin to erupt across the region. In places, the density of flowers is so great that they carpet entire area, painting the landscape brilliant hues of orange, yellow and purple. Pictured here, vibrant orange California poppies mingle with yellow California goldfields for miles in all directions. Knowing that in a few short weeks, the colors will fade, the flowers will dry up, and the scenery will turn brown, the ephemeral nature of this superbloom heightens the surreality of this painterly landscape.
