Salar de Uyuni - Boliva (2017)
In the fleeting moments of day, the sun’s last soft breath of light floods the surface of Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni as it dips below the western horizon. The light’s low angle accentuates the raised ridges of salt, causing the entire salt flat to glow, adding surreality to an already sublime landscape. Formed following the evaporation of ancient Altiplano lakes, Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world, covering more than 4,000 square miles. The unique polygonal pattern of raised salt ridges formed through evaporation as a result of a series of convection currents, known as Bénard cells.
