Spirit Island - Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada (2016)
After some last minute planning we rented a canoe and were off paddling eight miles down Jasper National Park's largest lake, to spend two days soaking in the magnificent scenery. Instead, however, we soon found ourselves soaking in an incredible deluge of rain that came that evening. Despite our best efforts, the weather was less than cooperative and we spent the late afternoon and evening huddled under tree cover from the rain. Fortunately the next morning we woke to some better weather and paddled over to Spirit Island, one of Canada's most iconic locations. To our delight, the thick clouds peeled back, revealing the fresh snow capped peaks of this serene, glacial-carved landscape.
